If this is your first time attending a GSCA conference, this guide will help you get the most out of your conference experience.
Register Early and Save
Take advantage of GSCA's early rate and register by July 9. You will save $100 off the standard rate and $200 off the late rate if you register by the July 9 deadline. If you're not a GSCA member yet, become a member before you register for the conference. Not only will you get all the benefits of membership, but you'll save hundreds of dollars on your conference registration fees. Register for the conference here: Conference Registration
Stay at the Conference Hotel
Most conference events, other than film screenings, will be held at the official conference hotel--the Chattanooga Marriott. It’s the hub of conference activity. Not only is it more convenient to stay in the same hotel where the events happen, but there are even more opportunities for industry networking when you stay at the conference hotel. Make your hotel reservation before September 3 to get the guaranteed conference rate: Hotel Reservations
Introduce Yourself
Time and time again new attendees tell us how welcoming and supportive the giant screen industry is. All GSCA conference delegates will be wearing name badges identifying their name, company, and where they are located. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and strike up a conversation with other delegates, whether it’s with a fellow first-timer or an industry veteran. Introduce yourself to staff as well. Our name badges will say "staff," and we'll be at the GSCA registration desk to answer questions during the conference. We love to meet the people we've been e-mailing and calling, make introductions for people, and help you navigate the industry and the conference.
Join GSCA's Mentor Program
"An important program. It really helped me in establishing some key relationships right off the top." "LOVE this program. My mentor and I had a great exchange. It was fantastic." "The mentor program is a keeper. I had positive experiences. I got connected to essential players and guided on ways to play."
GSCA's Mentor Program pairs industry veterans with new members and first-time attendees based on their area of expertise. Post-conference delegate surveys show that participants find this program to be extremely valuable in learning more about the industry, their field of expertise within the industry, and how to get the most out of their conference experience. You are strongly encouraged to sign up for this program and be matched with a mentor. To do so, please contact Tammy Seldon via e-mail.
Attend the First-Timer/New Member Reception
GSCA will host a First-Timer/Member Reception on Friday, September 24, at 6:00 p.m. If you have signed up for the GSCA mentor program, this may be your first chance to meet your mentor. This intimate reception is also an opportunity to meet GSCA board members and staff and put faces to names you may have seen on the GSCA website, e-news, or e-mail, or to a voice you’ve spoken to on the telephone. It is also a chance to meet other first-timer attendees. Many long-standing business partnerships and industry friendships got their start at past First-Timer/New Member receptions.
Attend the Giant Screen Industry 101 Session
Giant Screen Industry 101: An Introduction, Refresher, and Idea Exchange will be held the afternoon of Friday, September 24. During this session GSCA veterans share their giant screen experience in all aspects of the industry--from production, post-production, and distribution to operations, programming, marketing, customer service, and projection. This session is extremely valuable in helping all GSCA members achieve more success in their business, especially those new to GSCA or the industry. Even industry veterans attend this session as a refresher course. The session is free to all GSCA members, but seating is limited, so make sure you indicate on your registration form if you will be attending. If you have already registered but did not indicate you would like to attend this session, please contact Tammy Seldon via e-mail if you would like to attend.
Attend the Trade Show
The GSCA trade show is the chance to meet and do business with the vendors you will be working with in the giant screen industry. They’re all in one place, just waiting for you to stop by, introduce yourself, and discuss what films, products, or services you need to get your job done. New film marketing sessions are held during the trade show as well. During the sessions, meet with the distribution marketing professionals and get tips on how to successfully promote their films in your market. The trade show also includes a brunch buffet and prizes (including a drawing for an iPad for early-bird attendees), so don’t miss it.
Choose Professional Development Sessions
Professional development sessions will address issues such as marketing, digital cinema, lifelong learning, commercial theater success, projection tips, and more. These sessions will give you ideas to take back and use at your job. More information about the professional development sessions will be posted soon.
Join a GSCA Committee
GSCA committees tackle a variety of industry and association issues, from conference planning, member services, and marketing to lifelong learning, professional development, and technical issues. Working on a committee is one of the best ways to learn more about the industry and the association and to have a hand in shaping its future. Committee meetings will be held on September 24 and are open to any GSCA member who would like to attend. Meeting times and locations are listed in schedule, and committee information can be found here: GSCA Committees
Please contact GSCA staff if you have any questions about the conference. We look forward to seeing you in Chattanooga!
